  • Throne Room Throne Room

The Throne Room, also called the Main House, is the biggest of the three state rooms in the Palace. Its construction was not begun until 1768, when the marriage of Dom Pedro to his niece, the future Queen, justified the creation of a large room designed for official audiences. In fact on the original plan by the architect Mateus Vicente de Oliveira, there were five rooms in this area which were described in the Palace inventory as late as 1763, but were then demolished to make way for the present room.
